Dorado is known for being a resort area and as such, has some of the finest Hotels, Casinos and golf courses on the island. Tourist life in Dorado is centered around the hotels. Tourists spend the bulk of their time by the pool, the beach and the golf course. Night life is centered around the Casino, hotel dining & dancing, and frequent "artistic" shows are included. Looking for more excitement? Dorado is a relatively short distance from the night life in San Juan.
Population is estimated at 34,000 (2000 census). "Ojo del Buey" or otherwise known as "The Ox's Eye," is a well known family recreation spot. It is so named because of a huge rock formation in the shape of an Ox head. Myth has it that the infamous Puerto Rican pirate, Roberto Cofresí, buried his yet unfound treasure somewhere at this locale.
